We won! On July 22nd, CarbonfreeDC found out we won 1 of 5 $20,000 grants from over 2,500 entries to the Green Effect competition. Our Extreme Green Neighborhood Makeover plan to green 20 deserving homes in Washington, DC was chosen by a panel of experts that included actor Edward Norton, Green For All CEO Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins and Center for Environmental Education Founder Jayni Chase. About our idea

The Extreme Green Neighborhood Makeover aims to do the following...
  • Improve the energy effeciency and eco-friendliness of 20 deserving homes in Washington, DC
  • Educate the community with public workshops on ways everyone can take immediate action to reduce their environmental impact
  • Calculate the energy, money and carbon savings for the participating families and publicize their stories, if desired, to inspire others to follow
  • Host a reception and inspiring lecture at National Geographic headquarters for the deserving families.

Green Jobs: A Pathway Out of Poverty

CarbonfreeDC is proud to provide the first professional work experience for Green DMV Inc.’s Greater Washington Green Jobs Corps graduates which will work on these homes and provide expert energy audits.
