Hybrids, Electrics and Diesels, OH MY! 01/28/2010
On Monday, CarbonfreeDC hosted a workshop on clean transportation options lead by two experts in advanced vehicles: Beniot Colin (w/ Plug In America) and Seena Faqiri (w/ EcoDrivingUSA). Our presenters lead an excellent workshop, explaining how to choose between diesel/gas/hybrid/plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles, depending on your own commute and living situation. They also gave advice on how to reduce your environmental footprint and save money in a traditional vehicle with special "hypermilage" and city driving techniques. Lastly, we'll delved into the evolution of transportation in the DC Metro area specifically. Thanks again Benoit and Seena! Didn't make it out this Monday? Download their presentations below. I’m pushing for a PLUG-IN (CNG) HEV (hybrid ELECTRIC) vehicle.

The important thing is that all this humane technology be affordable ONLY for that section of society that can afford to live in Logan Circle and shop at Whore Foods.

You're right that many new technologies are too expensive for much of the population, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't pursue them. As we invest more in these products they become more affordable; hopefully to the point where they become a central tool in society's toolbox to go about their lives -- in this case in a more eco-friendly way. Think of the cellphone. Twenty some years ago the first few models cost thousands of dollars and dollars per minute to operate. Now nearly everyone has one, including low-income individuals. There is nothing smug about helping to bring an environmentally responsible, new technology to scale.

The most glorious moment in your life are not the socalled days of success, but rather those days when out of dejection and despair you feel rise in you a challenge to life, and the promise of future accomplishment. Do you think so?
